This is a Middy pattern that the original Bluette and her sisters would have worn. It is so stunning and authentic with meticulous details that I am offering it to my more experienced customers. I think this pattern would fall into the Gourmet and/or Heirloom Needlework category. It is a pattern that is truly fit for an exquisite antique doll or modern artist doll.
It includes a knitted vest (camisole), crocheted drawers (panties), crochet petticoat, dress (part knit and part crochet), lanyard, crocheted hat, crochet socks and directions for crocheted slippers.
The hat is a work of art...with loop crochet "feathers" and white and blue pompons. A small piece of blue sateen was used to make a collar for the blouse in the original pattern and a half yard of narrow ribbon.. Other notions used were tiny wire and elastic for the hat; buckles or ribbon rosettes for the shoes; small amount of cream twine for the soles of the slippers.
It is an unsized antique knit & crochet British pattern for "small dolls". It will likely present a challenge because it about 100 years old and written with the original directions. I am including a chart of abbreviations and definitions for the uncommon terminology as well as an International Yarn and Needle Conversion chart.
This beautiful old pattern was originally made with Andalusian wool (equivalent to US sport weight) and shetland wool (equivalent to US fingering). Crochet cotton was used for the lanyard and socks. The original pattern used bone knitting needles size UK 0, steel knitting needles Size UK 14, a bone crochet needle UK size 10 and a fine steel crochet needle.
