This is a knit pattern that was designed for the very popular British Rosebud Twins hard plastic 6 1/2" dolls in the late 40's and early 1950's.
It was knitted in 2-ply fingering wool with the US equivalent of size 1 knitting needles and trimmed with embroidery silk and two tiny buttons.
The sundress has a bib front, straps that cross and button in the back and has an inverted pleat in the front and back of the skirt. Embroidery silk in contrasting colors was used to make "dots" on the dresses & bolero and to trim the edge of the bolero at the neck. However, this classic pattern would be perfect for modern dolls. The classic nature of the design lends itself to a number of variations for one of a kind designs.
These charming patterns will fit many modern, popular dolls in sizes from 6 1/2" such as Ellery, Riley, Ginny, Muffie, Betsy McCall, Amanda Jane, etc. with only minor adjustments to needle or yarn size.
